Statistic and Skill System Empty Statistic and Skill System

Post by Ravilin Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:15 am

Disclaimer: These systems are under development and may require fine tuning. Don't cry, it'll be alright.

STATISTICS? What in the world are they? Oh, sorry, was that word too big? Let's use its shorter term, then. Stats. Is it coming to you now? I sure hope so.

Yes, here at BTIS, we use a Stat system. Well, we use a lot of systems. But Stats is undeniably one of them. What do Stats depict? Simply, they dictate how your character compares to another character. Stat differences have a profound effect on the outcome of a battle.

The Stats
Reiryoku (Reishi for Quincy): This Stat depicts how much energy your character has at his or her disposal. This Stat also dictates how long your character can battle before succumbing to fatigue. This Stat directly affects every other Stat in that it increases every other Stat in multiplicative fashion. Additionally, this Stat is the sum of all other Stats. This Stat is directly affected by both the Reiryoku Manipulation and Racial Release skill-sets.

Non-specific actions (swing of the sword, swing of the fist, a jump, ect) cost 1% of your total Reiryoku Stat.

Physical Offense: This Stat depicts how much destruction your character can usher onto the world with your physical power. This Stat corresponds to all physical abilities and techniques. It is directly affected by both the Zanjutsu and Hakuda skill-sets.

Spiritual Offense: This Stat depicts how much destruction your character can usher onto the world with your spiritual power. This Stat corresponds to all spiritual abilities and techniques. It is directly affected by specific Kidō and specific equivalent racial abilities.

Defense: This Stat depicts how much damage your character sustains when struck and how effective adverse effects are on your character. This Stat corresponds to all physical and spiritual attacks. It may be directly affected by specific Kidō and specific equivalent racial abilities.

Agility: This Stat depicts how fast your character is. This includes all forms of movement. It is directly affected by the Hoho skill-set.

How do Stat differences function?
Stat differences have profound effects on a battle's outcome. If it didn't, there would be no need for Stats, amirite? Stats function quite intuitively. I will start by outlining which Stats may "clash" with one another:

Physical Offense may "clash" with Physical Offense and Defense.
  • When two combatants attack one another, and their physical attacks clash, both character's Physical Offense is compared to asses the victor of said clash. Anything within a 20% point spread is arguable and based on role-play, although the higher end Stat holder has an advantage. Any difference past 20% of points is an assured victory for the character who holds the higher Stat.
  • When one combatant attacks another, the attacking character's Physical Offense is compared to that of the defending character's Defense to asses how much damage was caused, if any. Anything within a 20% point spread is arguable and based on role-play, although the higher end Stat holder has an advantage. Any difference past 20% of points is an assured victory for the character who holds the higher Stat.

Spiritual Offense may "clash" with Spiritual Offense and Defense.
  • When two combatants attack one another, and their spiritual attacks clash, both character's Spiritual Offense is compared to asses the victor of said clash. Anything within a 20% point spread is arguable and based on role-play, although the higher end Stat holder has an advantage. Any difference past 20% of points is an assured victory for the character who holds the higher Stat.
  • When one combatant attacks another, the attacking character's Spiritual Offense is compared to that of the defending character's Defense to asses how much damage was caused, if any. Anything within a 20% point spread is arguable and based on role-play, although the higher end Stat holder has an advantage. Any difference past 20% of points is an assured victory for the character who holds the higher Stat.

Agility may "clash" with Agility.
  • When two combatants move about in an attempt to outmaneuver each other, both character's Agility Stats are compared to asses the victor of said competition. Anything within a 20% point spread is arguable and based on role-play, although the higher end Stat holder has an advantage. Any difference past 20% of points is an assured victory for the character who holds the higher Stat.

The Skill-Sets
Skill-Sets? What may these be? Well, they're little bags of fun, that's what. The battle system here at BTIS is quite intricate. Intricate in the sense that it is split into two parts of the same whole. One cannot function without the other. A player will have to place careful consideration when distributing his limited points in between the two sections.

Skill-Sets are categories that your character can specialize in. They have a profound effect on Stats, among other benefits. Simply, Skill-Sets possesses multiplicative bonuses to their linked Stat. Skill-Sets are split between Universal (all races) and Racial (specific races).

Each Skill-Set has an identical set of Ranks. These Ranks state how proficient your character is within said Skill-Set. The Ranks are as follows:

Ranks:
As a note, you do not need to purchase every Rank to progress. One may purchase Renowned and then must only pay the difference between Master and Renowned to upgrade.

Universal Skill-Sets

Zanjutsu (Way of the Weapon): This Skill-Set depicts a character's proficiency with all weaponry. It directly affects a character's Physical Offense Stat.

Zanjutsu Ranks:

Hakuda Ranks:

Seishin (Way of the Spirit): This Skill-Set depicts a character's proficiency with all offensive spiritual abilities. It directly affects a character's Spiritual Offense Stat.

Seishin Ranks:

Bōei (Way of Defense): This Skill-Set depicts a character's defensive capabilities. It directly affects a character's Defense Stat.

Bōei Ranks:

Hohō (Way of the Flash): This Skill-Set depicts a character's proficiency with all speed increasing techniques. It directly affects a character's Agility.

Hohō Ranks:

Reiryoku (Raishi) Manipulation (Way of Energy): This Skill-Set depicts a character's proficiency with the Reiryoku Stat. It directly affects a character's Reiryoku multiplier.

Reiryoku Manipulation Ranks:

Statistic and Skill System Empty Re: Statistic and Skill System

Post by Ravilin Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:23 am

Alright, so you've read through the above? Everything make sense? If not, go back through it a couple more times. Thanks bro.

Now, I'd like to go over the point conversion. As you know, we use both P (Skill-Set Points) and SP (Stat Points). These Stats are not interchangeable and may only be utilized to purchase their respective Stats or Skill-Sets. With that said, you may only ever accumulate P. There is no method, aside from the conversion process that I will outline below, to gain SP. Sorry, I know life is SO HARD.

P and SP Conversion Method
The conversion method is quite simple, really. Since all Stats are totaled within the Reiryoku (Reishi) Stat, the conversion rate is pegged to said category. The conversion rates fluctuate based on how much Reiryoku (Reishi) Stat you have at the time of transfer. The rates are as follows:

0-500 Reiryoku: Every 5P converts to 1SP
501-1000 Reiryoku: Every 10P converts to 1SP
1001-1500 Reiryoku: Every 15P converts to 1SP
1501-2000 Reiryoku: Every 20P converts to 1SP
2001-2500 Reiryoku: Every 25P converts to 1SP
2501-3000 Reiryoku: Every 30P converts to 1SP

ITS SO SIMPLE! Who would have ever thought.

Purchasing Release Technique Slots
Yes, here at BTIS, you are REQUIRED to purchase your Technique slots. The costs will grow incrementally as your arsenal of abilities increases. The costs are as follows:

Shinigami

1st Shikai Technique: 50P
2nd Shikai Technique: 100P
3rd Shikai Technique: 200P
4th Shikai Technique: 400P
5th Shikai Technique: 800P
6th Shikai Technique: 1,600P

1st Bankai Technique: 50P
2nd Bankai Technique: 100P
3rd Bankai Technique: 200P
4th Bankai Technique: 400P
5th Bankai Technique: 800P
6th Bankai Technique: 1,600P

All other Races

1st Release Technique: 50P
2nd Release Technique: 100P
3rd Release Technique: 200P
4th Release Technique: 300P
5th Release Technique: 400P
6th Release Technique: 500P
7th Release Technique: 600P
8th Release Technique: 700P
9th Release Technique: 800P
10th Release Technique: 900P
11th Release Technique: 1000P
12th Release Technique: 1100P

Note: You must purchase each slot under its individual cost. For instance, you'd still need to pay 400P for the 4th Release Technique slot even if you have already purchased the 3rd Release Technique slot.

Technique Stat Multipliers
Yea, that's right, your techniques and special abilities CAN posses multipliers. The maximum multiplier your techniques may posses is directly dependent on your total Reiryoku Stat. The maximums are as follows:

  • 500 Reiryoku: Your techniques and abilities may posses a maximum multiplier of [1.1 to the technique's or ability's respective Stat].
  • 1000 Reiryoku: Your techniques and abilities may posses a maximum multiplier of [1.2 to the technique's or ability's respective Stat].
  • 1500 Reiryoku: Your techniques and abilities may posses a maximum multiplier of [1.3 to the technique's or ability's respective Stat].
  • 2000 Reiryoku: Your techniques and abilities may posses a maximum multiplier of [1.4 to the technique's or ability's respective Stat].
  • 2500 Reiryoku: Your techniques and abilities may posses a maximum multiplier of [1.5 to the technique's or ability's respective Stat].
  • 3000 Reiryoku: Your techniques and abilities may posses a maximum multiplier of [1.6 to the technique's or ability's respective Stat].

Average Technique Cost
Techniques expend an additional, preset amount of Reiryoku aside from those detailed above. The following list depicts on average how much Reiryoku a technique will cost based on its Stat multiplier or Secondary Effect.

No Secondary Effect or Multiplier: 2% of total Reiryoku (Reishi)
Mild Secondary Effect or Multiplier: 4% of total Reiryoku (Reishi)
Moderate Secondary Effect or Multiplier: 6% of total Reiryoku (Reishi)
Severe Secondary Effect or Multiplier: 10% of total Reiryoku (Reishi)

Statistic and Skill System Empty Re: Statistic and Skill System

Post by Ravilin Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:51 pm

Random Character Example

Yup, its that time. I'll now work out a hypothetical Stat and Skill-Set spread for your entertainment (and benefit).

Let's say we have The Joker. He's a really cool guy. He's got a pretty smile to boot. So let's say The Joker went through the Profile Creation and Try-Out processes and received a total of 7000P for his troubles. Well, that's not too bad. So, this is what his Stat and Skill-Set will look like before he purchases anything:

---
Race: Arrancar
Total P Available: 7000

Reiryoku: 0

Physical Offense: 0
Spiritual Offense: 0
Defense: 0
Agility: 0

Zanjutsu: None
Hakuda: None
Seishin: None
Bōei: None
Hoho: None
Reiryoku Manipulation: None

Zanpakuto Resurrecion: None

Total Technique Slots: 0
---

Now, let's say that the player wants The Joker to be a purely physical character who is lethal with his weapon. So in essence, he'll want to skip Hakuda outright. So, let's purchase the max rank for the Zanjutsu skill-set. The new spread will look like this:

---
Race: Arrancar
Total P Available: 7000-1600 = 5400 (Purchased Supreme Rank of Zanjutsu for 1600P. Your new total available P is 5400 post purchase.)

Reiryoku: 0

Physical Offense: 0
Spiritual Offense: 0
Defense: 0
Agility: 0

Zanjutsu: Supreme
Hakuda: None
Seishin: None
Bōei: None
Hoho: None
Reiryoku Manipulation: None

Zanpakuto Resurrecion: None

Total Technique Slots: 0
---

Now we're getting somewhere. Holy crap he's going to be a beast! Well, if you build him right of course. Now that we have purchased his defining Skill-Set, it would be advised to purchase an initial amount of Reiryoku. Let's go ahead and by a total of 500 Reiryoku. Remember though that we will need to convert some of your remaining P (Skill-Set Points) to SP (Stat Points) in order to purchase Reiryoku. The new spread will look like this:

---
Race: Arrancar
Total P Available: 5400-2500 = 2900 (Converted a total of 2500P to 500SP at the conversion rate of [2500P/5SP]. Your new total available P is 2900 post conversion.)

Reiryoku: 500

Physical Offense: 0
Spiritual Offense: 0
Defense: 0
Agility: 0

Zanjutsu: Supreme
Hakuda: None
Seishin: None
Bōei: None
Hoho: None
Reiryoku Manipulation: None

Zanpakuto Resurrecion: None

Total Technique Slots: 0
---

As you can see, The Joker now has 500 total Reiryoku. Before we move on though, let's distribute that 500 total amongst the remaining 4 Stats. For a physical attacker, we'd likely skip Spiritual Offense completely and allot very few points to Defense. So, here is what it could look like:

---
Race: Arrancar
Total P Available: 2900

Reiryoku: 500

Physical Offense: 250(450)
Spiritual Offense: 0
Defense: 50
Agility: 200

Zanjutsu: Supreme
Hakuda: None
Seishin: None
Bōei: None
Hoho: None
Reiryoku Manipulation: None

Zanpakuto Resurrecion: None

Total Technique Slots: 0
---

Wait, what? Yea, you saw it right. There's a 450 in red right next to the 250. Why? Well, you are a Supreme Ranked Zanjutsu user, right? Last I checked, those who posses a Supreme Rank in Zanjutsu and use a weapon have their Physical Offense multiplied by 1.8. So, your 250 turns into [250*1.8] 450 while using a weapon (You must place the appropriate boosted Stat within parentheses if that boost occurs during release or when that Stat is boosted while using a specific Skill-Set). Pretty cool, right? Now that we have that set, let's check out what other important things remain to be purchased. Aha! We need to buy our Release form technique slots. Let's say you want your Arrancar to have a total of 5 special techniques during his release:

---
Race: Arrancar
Total P Available: 2900-1050 = 1850 (Purchased a total of 5 technique slots for a total of 1050P).

Reiryoku: 500

Physical Offense: 250(450)
Spiritual Offense: 0
Defense: 50
Agility: 200

Zanjutsu: Supreme
Hakuda: None
Seishin: None
Bōei: None
Hoho: None
Reiryoku Manipulation: None

Zanpakuto Resurrecion: None

Total Technique Slots: 5
---

Woohoo! Now you can create 5 awesomely broken and hax techniques for The Joker, right? Well, we won't get into that here. So, what's next on the list? Honestly, at this point, it all really depends on what you see most benefiting your character. From experience though, I'd probably say Zanpakuto Resurrecion would be a good Skill-Set to have. So let's purchase up to the Master rank in that Skill-Set:

---
Race: Arrancar
Total P Available: 1850-800 = 1050 (Purchased Master Rank of Zanpakuto Resurrecion for 800P. Your new total P is 1050 post purchase).

Reiryoku: 500(750)

Physical Offense: 250(450)
Spiritual Offense: 0
Defense: 50
Agility: 200

Zanjutsu: Supreme
Hakuda: None
Seishin: None
Bōei: None
Hoho: None
Reiryoku Manipulation: None

Zanpakuto Resurrecion: Master

Total Technique Slots: 5
---

Aha! You've probably already noticed that your Reiryoku Stat, just like your Physical Offense, has a higher number in red next to the original. Yup, when The Joker goes into Resurrecion, his Reiryoku increases (For Shinigami, there will be two parentheses, one for Shikai and the other for Bankai). This increase however, does not directly provide you with a boost in your Stats. If you read this topic in its entirety, you'd know that The Joker will require at least 1000 Reiryoku and some purchases in the Reiryoku (Reishi) Manipulation Skill-Set. Unfortunately, you don't have enough P left to accomplish this initial feat. So, the rest of these 1050P is up to you to distribute how you see fit.

That's the end of this tutorial. I hope this has made it a bit more clear as to how we use Stats and Skills here at BTIS.
